Table Setting Ideas for Easter Entertaining
A vase of Easter lilies makes for a very nice and attractive table setting for Easter entertaining. But just about everyone does lilies, don’t they? Perhaps this year it’s time to do something different. There are other flowers you can use instead. You can even make a lovely table setting without any flowers or plants all. This year it is about thinking outside the box.
Some of the suggestions listed below might involve going out and purchasing a few new things to add to your table setting collection. But most are very inexpensive. By using what you already have in your home, you can create some lovely table settings for your Easter entertainment schedule.
Ferns and Daffodils
We are starting with a green suggestion because so many people are used to having flowers on the table. This year, try trading in the Easter lilies for selection of ferns and daffodils. After all, Easter entertaining is as much about spring as the Easter holiday itself.
A nice selection of ferns adds a splash of color that nicely complements elegant stemware and place settings. You can display ferns in any number of ways. Daffodils create a very nice compliment as well. Try a potted daffodil on a white plate with ferns on either side.
Wild Grass Table Setting
If you have a rectangular planter, filling it with some wild grass and accenting with colored eggs and ribbons can create a very beautiful table setting. We recommend soft, pastel colors like pinks, blues and yellows. They contrast nicely with the wild grass while also enhancing its texture. There’s only one caveat with this idea: guests with allergies might be sensitive to certain kinds of grasses. You might want to check with your guests just to make sure there are no allergy issues.
Multiple Layers of Color
If you are looking for a table setting that doesn’t involve anything living, think layers of color. Layering multiple colors throughout your table setting can have the same effect as flowers and plants.
For example, a bowl of pastel-colored Easter candies surrounded by three or four candlesticks with pink and blue candles is a good starting point. Then place folded linen napkins between the candlesticks and the bowl to create a little more depth. Then add some smaller items in various locations at a distance from your main table setting. You’ll end up with four different layers of color and texture.
Go Country/Rustic
Another great idea to decorate your table without using plants or flowers is to embrace the country/rustic look. For example, you may have some empty mason jars stored in the kitchen cupboard. Use twine to wrap the lower half of one or two jars, then place those jars at the center of the table and fill them with jelly beans. A few strategically placed wooden spoons and spatulas complete the effect.
A Personalized Centerpiece
One of the best ideas we’ve heard of is to create a personalized centerpiece that somehow links to every guest at your table. You could take colored Easter eggs and, using a sharp knife, create a notch in the pointed end of each one. In that notch, you can slip a handmade name tag. Then sprinkle sand or salt on the table to create a mound that you can place each egg on. The sand or salt will help the egg stand up on end to display the name tag.
Decorating for your Easter entertaining this year doesn’t have to mean the same old Easter lily centerpiece. Think new. Think different. Think outside the box.
