How to Throw an Epic Christmas Party
As the holiday season approaches, the kids are having visions of sugar plums and all that stuff. As adults, our minds are more attuned to the holiday gatherings that will bring together friends and family from all over. So while the kids are writing their Christmas lists, it’s time for you to get down to the business of planning an epic Christmas party.
An epic Christmas party is one that all your guests will remember for years. It is a party they will talk about in future years, sharing memories and laughter along with the photographs and videos. And here’s how you pull off:
1. Don’t Try to Make It Postcard Perfect
The biggest trap of holiday party planning is trying to make your holiday gatherings postcard perfect. When you do that, you project your image of perfection on everyone else – even if their ideas of what makes an epic party don’t agree with yours.
Rather than striving for a party so perfect it could be featured in a magazine, shoot for a party that is comfortable and fun for everyone. It’s more important to create an environment in which your guests are relaxed and happy than one that would look perfect in front of a camera. And if one of the kids or your aging aunt accidentally spills bright red punch on your carpet, don’t stress. Take a photograph, laugh about it, and get back to your guests.
2. Let Others Help
Some party hosts strive to make their gatherings postcard perfect while others refuse to let guests help out. We’ve already addressed the postcard perfect scenario, so let’s talk about trying to do all the work yourself.
Not sharing the workload is a good way to wear yourself out long before your party starts. Why do that? Your guests would love the opportunity to pitch in by making some food, helping to decorate, or doing anything else you need to be done. You can create a truly epic Christmas party without doing all the work by delegating tasks to your friends and family. You will all have a better time for it.
3. Don’t Wait on the Invitations
The holiday season is busy for everyone these days. If you want a truly epic party, don’t wait until two weeks before to send out invitations. Give your guests plenty of lead time to include your party in their plans.
4. Theme Your Table Setting
If you think back on past Christmas celebrations when you were a child, it is likely you don’t remember many of the gifts found under the tree. What you do remember are those special little touches your parents and grandparents added to the celebrations. For example, a themed dinner table is a simple but effective way to create memories. Your table setting can include a lovely centerpiece, matching linens, and holiday-themed place settings. You might even break out the fine china and crystal too!
5. Make Some Chocolates and Cookies
Most of us have memories of helping mom in the kitchen in the weeks leading up to Christmas celebrations. Do the same with your kids. If you don’t have kids, you can still make your own chocolates and cookies for the holidays. Put on some of your favorite Christmas music, don the apron, and start creating. You’ll make wonderful memories and provide your guests with homemade snacks and desserts that are sure to send them away smiling.
Your epic holiday party is waiting to be planned. So get started now. The season will be upon us before you know it.
