April Food Happenings in Austin
Austin is known as one of the best foodie towns in America thanks to the plethora of annual food-related events we host. At any point in the year, foodies can indulge their palates with all sorts of incredible cuisine from all over the world. And, of course, spring marks the start of the annual food season here in central Texas.
The month of April always brings a full calendar of food-based events to choose from. Already in this young month, we have hosted the Play Dough Pop Up at Springdale Farm, the Anniversary Sundae Party at Counter Culture, and Austin Food & Wine Alliance’s 2017 Live Fire showdown. If you missed Live Fire at Camp Mabry, trust us when we say you missed a great time.
Don’t be too disheartened if you haven’t had the opportunity to get out and enjoy a food event or two thus far. April’s calendar is jam-packed. We recommend the following:
East Austin Urban Farm Tour (April 9)
Urban farms are certainly not ubiquitous in the U.S., but they are catching on in places where the weather cooperates. You can visit four of Austin’s best urban farms by participating in the eighth annual edition of this fantastic tour. Guests will be taken to four different farms where they will meet well-known chefs and enjoy tasty bites made from locally sourced ingredients.
Easy Sunday with Boston Beerworks (April 9)
Easy Sundays are a seasonal event hosted every year by Easy Tiger. Their first of the season is Sunday, April 9. You will enjoy a great afternoon with Austin Beerworks, a live DJ, screen printing, and a charity raffle. The event runs from 2 to 6 PM.
Cheeses that Go with Beer (April 14)
Antonelli’s The Cheese House on Park Boulevard will be presenting a Cheeses that Go with Beer class beginning at 6:30 PM. The class is all about learning to pair your favorite cheeses with a great beer. It features seven different cheese styles that guests can explore. Purchase beer at the event or bring your own.
Colossal Curry Cookoff (April 22)
We are especially excited about the Austin Food Blogger Alliance’s 2017 Colossal Curry Cookoff. This annual event invites local chefs to enter a competition designed to crown the curry champion for the next year. If curry is your thing, this is the event for you. It runs from 2 to 4 PM at Shangri-La; tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. By the way, it’s free to enter the competition if you think you have what it takes to be the curry champion.
Edible Austin’s Annual Children’s Picnic (April 23)
The fifth edition of Edible Austin’s Children’s Picnic brings families together to enjoy a wholesome food fair absolutely free. In addition to good food, guests will have opportunities to interact with local farmers, restaurant owners, storytellers, musicians, and local nonprofits.
Austin Food and Wine Festival (April 27-30)
The Annual Austin Food and Wine Festival is back on the final weekend in April. The festival comes fully loaded with vendors and local chefs offering up their best recipes for your approval. This year’s event also offers special evening activities that are being introduced for the first time. If you have never attended this annual festival, 2017 would be a great year to start.
Austin foodies get ready, April marks the start of a great season in one of the best foodie cities in the US. Get out there with friends, meet new people, try some new foods, and enjoy everything you love about living and playing in Austin.
