Product Features: Handcrafted in India Cotton fabric Color block print Large table cloth White, red and grey pattern 57 inches x 57 inches Story Behind the Art: The hand-block printing process. The patterns (motifs) are carved by hand on wooden blocks. Low impact dyes are mixed in trays; each color requires a separate block. The fabric is hand-stamped with one color, firmly and steadily to ensure a precise impression, then dried, re-wound and printed with the next color repeating the same process. Hand-block printing is an incredibly slow, labor-intensive process that combines the skills of an artist, tool maker, and carpenter - to craft a unique fabric that you will love! 100 percent unbleached kora cotton Contemporary designs (motifs) are hand-stamped on the fabric using wooden blocks and low impact dyes Artisans apply block print patterns to unbleached natural kora cotton fabric. To start printing, an artisan evenly applies dye to a hand-carved wooden block. The fabric, which has been prepared for printing, is then hand-stamped, firmly and steadily. This is a deceptively simple art-each piece features dozens-if not hundreds-of careful impressions. Once the artisan has finished printing with a specific color and block, the artisan cleans the block and often must wait for the cloth to dry before continuing. They first apply outline colors and shapes and then use blocks designed to precisely fill in parts of the pattern. The nonprofit artisan group we work with in Karnataka employs individuals with physical disabilities. The artisans are provided with medical care and are given a choice of crafts in which to be individually trained to best utilize their abilities, including block printing. What is Worldstock?
